High-power ultra-stable single-frequency lasers are often used for high precision sensing applications such as gas sensing, acoustic sensing, vibrational spectroscopy, absorption spectroscopy and reflection spectroscopy. Customers frequently utilize interferometry to detect motion or the distance to the laser source.
Some specific remote sensing examples include fiber-based stress/strain sensors, acoustic vibration sensors, and acousto-optic modulation sensors [1-2]
One common requirement for this space is the need for single-frequency operation of the laser source with a long coherence length. IPS offers a complete line of ultra-stable sources that range in wavelength from 405 nm to 1550 nm. Our sources offer RIN values at < -150 dB and have low phase noise characteristics making them ideal for the most demanding sensing applications.
